Market Day

Saturday is open market day in many of the nearby towns. People bring their produce and animals from miles around. Everybody bustles about, buying from open vats of the freshest yogurt and cheese, rice and lentils and every vegetable you ever want to eat (and a couple of questionable ones).

There are covered stands with piles of brilliantly colored ground spices and stands that sell rope bags to carry everything. There are bars of soap, pots and pans, and everything plastic: buckets and sandals and brushes and flowers. And fabrics -- wonderful prints on rayon, dying to be made into those great baggy pants.

Hanging out and watching or waiting for someone, this is a common scene on the weekends. On the weekends the kids are at school and the moms are at home.

In May, I went to Ortahisar and we set up the Kilim/eCommerce School. Click HERE to see!
