This photo was taken when I first met Hatice (pronounced Ha TEE Jay). Like many young village women her age, she is well-educated and intelligent. After graduation from high school, however, there is little for her to do but work on her dowry and wait to marry and become a stay-at-home wife and mother. She'd love to do so much more, but there seems to be no way.
